Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon continues to build his recruiting class, once again adding bulk and size to the frontcourt.
According to Matt Bonesteel of the Washington Post, Georgia forward Charles Mitchell confirmed via his Twitter account that he’s heading to College Park next season.
Mitchell is a husky 6’7 frontcourt presence from Marietta, Georgia. As Bonesteel writes, Scout.com had pretty encouraging things to say about Mitchell–who is ranked as a three-star prospect and the No. 27 senior center prospect in the country.
A load to handle in the paint, Mitchell is an undersized post prospect that plays with energy and effort. When he gets touches he immediately looks to attack. He has a good set of hands, nice touch on the block and can face up for mid-range jump shots. The 6-foot-7 big man uses his wide frame to carve out space and rebounds his area well.
Judging from the limited game tape that I’ve seen, Mitchell has the potential to bang around on the block with the rest of the ACC talent. Given the fact that he can create space AND throw on his touch around the basket, Mitchell could turn some heads with his versatility on both ends of the court.
