Washington Wizards: Need A Reason To Like Michael Kidd-Gilchrist In DC?

-- Courtesy of ESPN --

It may seem like wishful thinking to picture Kentucky freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in a Wizards uniform come draft night on June 28th, but fans should cross their fingers.

The Wizards hosted MKG this morning in a private workout, which I’m sure he handled quite well. But it couldn’t have been anywhere near as exciting as the lines he dropped at the NBA Combine last week in Chicago.

As Michael Lee of the Washington Post reports, MKG was asked about how he’d fit in Washington if the Wizards were to be so lucky. His reponse was enough for me.

I mean, with John [Wall] and Nene? I think it’s a playoff team.

Although I may not agree with the young man — at least not in 2013 — I can’t knock his positive attitude. Originally it was his grittiness and will to win on the court that drew me to him as a prospect, but his demeanor and approach to the game is even more attractive.

To remind all of us of how old we really are, MKG was also asked about his memory of Michael Jordan as a kid.

I was like 9, 10. Yeah, when he was a Wizard. That was the first time I ever saw him. The Wizards.

As much as I support hometown guys, and as much as I’d like to see one play his professional ball at home, I’m praying to the basketball gods that Thomas Robinson ends up in Charlotte. It’s crazy to think about the Bobcats selecting Robinson over a guy like Kidd-Gilchrist, but we all must remember who runs the team down there in North Carolina.
