I usually stand pretty firm on my ground of being a Playstation guy over an Xbox guy.

But because Microsoft released it’s latest Xbox One this week, and used Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III in the demo, cleverly juking the britches off the entire Dallas Cowboys defense and scoring an exciting touchdown, I figured a post of the video was due.

The new graphics on this thing are insane. You can see the reflection in Griffin’s helmet shield, the sweat on Iniesta’s forehead and the bone protruding from Ricky Rubio’s ankle as he’s shaken and stirred by Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving.

Cool stuff.

And it appears criminal to use RG3 in the new Madden game.

For the third time in the past four seasons, the Washington Wizards will work with a top-three draft pick after getting lucky by way of the ping pong balls in last night’s NBA Draft Lottery.

This makes for yet another interesting draft sequence for Wizards general manager Ernie Grunfeld.

Not that all of his draft arrangments haven’t been crooked paths of disaster and mostly shame since arriving in Washington ten years ago. But this one has a slightly different ring to it.

This season, there truly is no consensus No. 1 pick.

When the Wizards landed the No. 1 overall pick back in 2010, there were a few whispers here and there about how Evan Turner was the better prospect. But never any real question as to John Wall being the consensus top pick.

Not to mention, the Wizards needed a floor general. Perhaps if Grunfeld hadn’t traded for Mike Miller with his bad back and Randy Foye with his minimal upside just one season earlier, Washington would already be building around a Ricky Rubio, Steph Curry or Jrue Holiday, in which case Evan Turner would’ve made more sense. But that didn’t happen.

Moving on…

This 2013 draft class isn’t considered star-studded. Some prospects appear to be solid rotational players for the long haul, while others pack tons of potential, but without the consistency needed to warrant the definitive ‘superstar’ label.

Any team in the lottery this year can select their guy without regard to inital and hasty fan-fueled uproar.

Sports of course warrant extreme criticism with every draft pick the team makes, regardless of it’s good or bad. But not having a hands-down, shoo-in at No. 1 this year allows for front offices to truly test the waters on a wide range of different prospects and wait for the backlash a few years from now when the player who was picked at No. 18 is outperferforming the guy that was picked second-overall.

And that’s why Grunfeld should be under an even bigger microscope this summer.

There’s no darling in this class. There’s not a no-brainer selection that requires a few giggles and turning in your draft card.

There’s a mess of guys at the top who are considered good prospects with a lot of upside. Homework is required, strategy is essential and boldness is mandatory.

It’s extremely rare to see a guy like Grunfeld, in his position with a professional sports franchise, go so long with such little success and still keep his job. The sports business is a demanding one, and it’s typically about what-have-you-done-for-me-lately.

As it pertains to Grunfeld, he hasn’t done jack shit lately.

I can’t say his job is in jeopardy. I don’t think anyone can. Even with a career record of 313-491 over the past ten seasons ( a .290 winning percentage over the last five ), Grunfeld was rewarded with a contract extension last April.

On top of that, team owner Ted Leonsis doesn’t seem too fond of firing the general managers of his sports teams despite minimal success ( see: McPhee, George ).

But Grunfeld needs to be on thin ice. He should’ve been feeling a warm seat years ago.

Lucikly for fans, and hopefully for Leonsis, this draft will serve as an accurate gauge of Grunfeld’s ability as an evaluator, strategist and war room operator.

Will he ever make up for the umpteen terrible draft choices that include Jarvis Hayes, Oleksiy Pecherov, Nick Young, JaVale McGee and Jan Vesely? Probably not. But fans have relatively short memories, especially if a team is turning it around and winning.

Grunfeld needs to do everything he can to take the guy HE believes is best for the Wizards. And if he can’t do that without pressure from the media and fans, and apparently without anything to lose, then he clearly doesn’t belong in an NBA front office.

Typically I do NBA mock drafts every summer.

This summer is not one of those summers.

I’m not sure if the draft class itself has me feeling a bit dull, or if I’m just terrified of what general manager Ernie Grunfeld has in store for the Washington Wizards. But something is working against me to not post a mock draft.

Instead, I’m going with a Wizards big board.

It’ll give you the skinny on a handful of guys that are thought to be high lottery picks, it’ll be more rational than any approach Ernie has carried into a draft in Washington and, most importantly, it’ll only pertain to the Wizards.

The Wizards scored big in Tuesday’s lottery drawing, landing the third-overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

The Slippery Seven – in this draft, anything can happen

1.) Otto Porter ( 6’8 / 198 / SF / Georgetown / b. 6-93 )

Given that his game translates well, he’s considered NBA-ready and the Wizards have seen plenty of him at the Verizon Center over the past two years, Otto Porter has to be the favorite for the Wizards’ pick.

Porter is a very well-rounded wing player that brings with him legitimate size and the ability to run the floor.

Although his jumpshot is still a work in progress, Porter has offense — demonstrating good balance both inside and outside, and showing potential as a shooter with good range.

Playing with a high game IQ, Porter is also a savvy defender, using his length to clog passing lanes and playing with sound technique.

But as much as Wizards fans like to bang the table for Porter and prematurely introduce him as the next Wizards blue-chip, don’t be surprised if Washington never gets their shot. The Cleveland Cavaliers are rumored to really like Porter and they can’t bank on LeBron James returning home.

Comparison: Tayshaun Prince

2.) Victor Oladipo ( 6’4 / 213 / SG / Indiana / b. 5-92 )

It’s a tough call between he and Porter, but I’m coming clean and calling Victor Oladipo my favorite prospect in this class.

Reigning from Upper Marlboro, MD and a graduate of nearby DeMatha, Oladipo was a late-bloomer. He wasn’t a highly-touted prep-star, but everyone watched him make huge strides during his short time at Indiana.

Even more so than his explosiveness, athleticism and quickness, Oladipo’s most coveted trait is his energy. Whether he’s going full-speed on offense, or locking down the perimeter, Oladipo is constantly giving 110 percent.

Speaking of, Oladipo’s defense is arguably tops in the class.

While Nerlens Noel is a shot-blocking machine, Oladipo combines length, speed, athleticism, natural instinct and that incredible energy to wreak havoc on the opposition.

And because of that, Oladipo is versatile enough to defend both guard positions and the small forward spot.

Comparison: Tony Allen, but with unsurpassed work ethic.

3.) Ben McLemore ( 6’5 / 189 / SG / Kansas / b. 2-93 )

If we’re going purely off potential, Ben McLemore has the most of it.

While not blessed with great physical tools in terms of size and length, McLemore is a superb athlete with real superstar potential.

His inconsistency and disappearing acts, however, are a concern moving forward.

McLemore is solid offensively, toting a smooth jumpshot to go along with natural explosiveness and quickness. He can handle the ball, but nothing crazy tight; he can leap and maneuver through traffic, with the ability to create his own shot; and he has good potential as a perimeter defender.

He’s not, however, anywhere near assertive enough to become the superstar.

Again, McLemore has the immense upside to become a great player, but with limited experience and little consistency.

Comparison: Ray Allen

4.) Nerlens Noel ( 7’0 / 206 / C / Kentucky / b. 4-94 )

Emeka Okafor is a solid center, and Nene is a fixture in the frontcourt. But that’s not long-term.

Before tearing his ACL late last season, Nerlens Noel was the consensus No. 1 pick. He’s a legit big man with crazy length, good hops and an already developed defensive presence. He’s an immediate contributor when it comes to guarding the rim as a pure shot-blocker.

Offensively, Noel is developing. He doesn’t have an array of post moves and he’s not going to pull the defense out on a jumper. But he can run the floor extremely well and he can finish at the rim. He’d be a fine running mate alongside John Wall and Bradley Beal.

The only concern regarding Noel is the knee injury. Beyond that, I believe Noel is a safe pick in that you know what you’re getting as an athletic defensive talent, and his offense is a work in progress.

Comparison: Larry Sanders

5.) Anthony Bennett ( 6’7 / 239 / PF / UNLV / b. 3-93 )

The only thing keeping Anthony Bennett from being the No. 1 pick in this draft is his inconsistent motor.

I didn’t get to see a lot of Bennett in live action last season, but his tape shows plenty of him loafing on defense, not getting back and standing around.

It also doesn’t help, I suppose, that Bennett is a bit of a tweener as an undersized power forward. But he has the athleticism, shooting range and ball handling skills to stretch the floor effectively as a wing.

Amongst all the prospects in this class, Bennett has the most impressive frame/body in regards to translating to the pros. He has good height, impressive length and awesome bulk.

Comparison: Marvin Williams, but with a thicker frame and better range.

6.) Alex Len ( 7’1 / 255 / C / Maryland / b. 6-93 )

If the Wizards were selecting somewhere in the 5-9 range, then we’d be talking a lot more about Alex Len and his possible landing spot just a few miles up the road from the College Park campus.

But because Washington pulled their wizardry, selecting at No. 3 essentially rules out the Ukrainian big man.

Len is a decent prospect with immense size and unique athleticism, but he’s a few years away from becoming a threat on offense.

Although his hands are weak, Len is aggressive when going after rebounds and he can protect the rim.

Len is a bit inconsistent on both ends of the floor, showing up as a potential No. 1 pick in some games, and settling as a non-factor in others.

As critical as I’ve been of Len over the past couple seasons, I do believe his game projects better as a pro than as a college player.

Comparison: Marcin Gortat, but slightly longer.

7.) Trey Burke ( 6’2 / 187 / PG / Michigan / b. 11-92 )

This pick would happen solely based on value, as the Wizards obviously don’t need a top-rated point guard prospect. But Trey Burke has all the makings of a very good floor general at the next level.

After seeing similar college production to former Texas point guard D.J. Augustin, I’ll admit I was a bit concerned. But Burke isn’t Augustin. He’ll be better, and he plays with a lot of heart.

Comparison: He may call his game Chris Paul. I call it a confident Mike Conley.

Wild Cards – very, very limited chance we see these guys in Wizards uniforms

Shabazz Muhammad ( 6’6 / 222 / SF / UCLA / b. 11-92 )

Didn’t back up the hype he brought with him to LA, but I like his ability to spot-up and he appears to be a tough competitor.

Shabazz Muhammad also fills a need in Washington, and he’d be a nice wing alongside John Wall.

Comparison: Richard Jefferson, but a natural shooter.

Rudy Gobert ( 7’2 / 238 / C / France / b. 6-92 )

Because Ernie Grunfeld.

I would light a couch on fire if the Wizards went this route, but at least Rudy Gobert would fill a need.

He has uncoachable height and a lot of potential.

He also plays for Kevin Seraphin’s former club, Cholet.

Comparison: Ryan Hollins, but with way higher upside?

Cody Zeller ( 7’0 / 230 / PF / Indiana / b. 10-92 )

I love: how he runs the floor, his deceiving athleticism, his ability to stretch the defense, his natural feel for the game, his shooting touch.

I hate: how he disappeared in the big game to close the season last year.

Comparison: David Lee

When football is away, we all lose our minds.

At least a little bit.

Although organized team activities begin this week, football fans will have to push through another two months until they can endulge in some sort of relevant football activity ( training camp 7/25 ).

So for the time being, it’s only fair that we pollute our brains with athlete rubbish and attempt to make stories out of garbage.

In this week’s copy, we shift our attention to a photo that Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III sent out via WhoSay.com — apparently a social media site that, presumably like the rest of you, I’ve never heard of.

Griffin captioned the photo with, “Thank you to the Fans who are helping buy ALL the items from our wedding registry at Bed Bath & Beyond #AppreciateEverything.”

Expectedly so, Griffin received some backlash. Something probably along the lines of: Why are you taking gifts from fans that are surely less fortunate than you in the financial department?

Except for some added sour attitude and the occasional curse word(s).

Griffin then responded.

I didn’t ask the fans to buy me anything. They found it on their own and decided to get what they could. SMH at all these Debbie downers

— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) May 19, 2013

Because you are rich you are not allowed to receive gifts and any gifts you receive should be donated to charity???? #WOW Smh…

— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) May 20, 2013

Haters gon hate. Theme of the day. They always say more money more problems. Or mo’ money mo’ problems. Yea I’m cultured #DealWithIt

— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) May 20, 2013

Let me first start out by saying that it probably wasn’t so much the picture that irked fans, but the facial expression that Griffin adds.

Was the picture a good idea in general? No, not really. But think of the difference in response if Griffin showed, say, a surprised face rather than a look-at-me-I’m-the-shit face. Reaction is probably different. I think.

As for those I heard on local airwaves today who talked about Griffin as the millionaire football player accepting gifts from people as if they were actually attending the wedding, I somewhat agree. I doubt Griffin needs to sign up for a registry anywhere. But he did.

Griffin didn’t blast his registry publicly. Someone found out about it. Then that same someone made it public and gift showering ensued. Let’s not make this into gift-buyers being the victims of RG3′s Ponzi scheme. He’s not a frickin’ con man.

If the people that sent the quarterback gifts were intelligent enough to drive a vehicle to a store and participate in a wedding registry, then they were certainly smart enough to recognize that Griffin already totes a fat wallet, and that they had no chance of being invited to the affair.

What it ultimately comes down to is Griffin’s lack of discipline and maturity when it comes to social media. I hate to think of it that way, but with all the mess surrounding his knee, talking to Trey Wingo and now this, someone in the young man’s camp should tell him to turn it down just a notch.

And that’s not to be mistaken for staying out of the limelight. I don’t mean that at all. Make all the commercials you can, endorse the hell out of Subway, wear all Adidas everything, rake in the dollars just for smiling, host celebrity events, make big news for your philanthropy efforts, etc. But keep away from anything and everything that serves as easy ammunition to be turned against you.

And if that means steering clear of WhoSay, then so be it. No one knows what the hell that is anyway.

Share

<g:plusone size="small" href="http://www.betbigdc.com/2013/05/rg3-receives-backlash-for-posting-picture-of-gifts-from-redskins-fans/" count="true"></g:plusone>

And now, the breakdown.

—

Here, Miguel begins his ascent, likely realizing at the peak of his leap that he’s bound to land a bit short of the stage.

Meanwhile, the crowd raves before Miguel’s sleek frame and graceful falsetto.

—

From a distance, you can see a dark-haired blur of a head beneath Miguel’s right leg as his ass plants firmly to the stage.

Momentum, gravity and body weight combine to make this one helluva blow to the innocent women’s neck and head.

—

It’s not until this shot that you get a glimpse of what really happened.

Not only does Miguel pull a Hulk Hogan and leg-drop the one fan from the top turnbuckle, but he also kicks another female square in the jaw with his left foot.

Make note of the crafty connector line ( shown in red ) between both Miguel’s left boot and fan No. 2′s head/face.

—

“Did I just do what I think I just did?” — Miguel

But guys, this is show business. And by God, the show must go on!

Miguel continues to serenade the thousands of others in attendance who weren’t treated like amateur pro wrestlers, while poor fan No. 1 and poor fan No. 2 try to recall where the are, why their ears are bleeding and why no one is around to help them escape their current state of dilirium.

Just another typical case of fans-that-sit-too-close-to-the-stage-and-have-no-thought-of-consequences-suffered-when-random-entertainer-doesn’t-calculate-a-ridiculous-crowd-jump.

While I don’t necessarily believe he requires a begging request to make the roster, I did receive more than a decent number of comments last week implying that rookie running back Jawan Jamison was nothing more than a practice squad guy and hopeful project.

As most of us know, a backfield under the control of Mike Shanahan is an unpredicatable one. The head coach’s track record of turning relative unknown college prospects into household names dates back more than a decade and it hasn’t exactly changed since he arrived in Washington three years ago.

In his first season with the team in 2010, Shanahan lost starting running back Clinton Portis to injury and then watched Ryan Torain rush for a team-high 742 yards on 162 carries.

The following season, Tim Hightower went down after just five games with an ACL tear and fourth-round rookie Roy Helu finished the season as the team’s leading rusher with 640 yards.

And last season, as we all clearly remember, a sixth-rounder out of Florida Atlantic by the name of Alfred Morris — who was thought to be nothing more than a practice squad late-round flyer — burst onto the scene and finished the year with 1,613 yards on 335 carries.

Morris’ rookie year was nothing short of amazing. His work ethic, his attitude, his toughness, etc. created a lasting impression amongst the fanbase and the team itself was rewarded by way of a division title.

But expecting Morris to duplicate that same production in 2013 isn’t logical.

Not to say that Morris isn’t capable, or that we wouldn’t all like to see it, but Shanahan isn’t about to run his prized asset into the ground with another 320+ carries this year.

And thanks to another efficient offseason, he won’t have to.

During last month’s draft, Shanahan and the Redskins added two new running backs to help lighten the load in Florida State’s Chris Thompson in the fifth round, and Rutgers’ Jawan Jamison in the seventh.

Thompson is thought of as a gamebreaker. He has the agility, acceleration, quickness and speed to compliment the Redskins offense and he’s versatile as both a runner and receiver.

Despite coming with a rough history of injuries, and currently recovering from ACL surgery, there’s high hopes for Thompson. The coaching staff loves him as a prospect and his skill set fits all too well in Washington.

But this other guy, Jamison. Don’t sleep on him.

I’m not here to tell you that he will supplant Morris at the healm, or that he’s the second coming of Ray Rice. But I like Jamison’s chances this summer, and he’d help the Redskins offense.

Pass Catching

Last season, the Redskins lacked a receiving threat out of the backfield. Whether by way of injury or lack of ability, the offense only had 41 receptions amongst all backfield players, with Evan Royster bringing in a team-high 15 catches.

Guess who brings a reliable set of hands?

Jamison hauled in 28 receptions for 323 yards and two scores last season as a sophomore, demonstrating the vision and shiftiness necessary to turn short passes into decent gains.

Running Style

A lot of what made Morris such a likable product on the field last year – in addition to his obvious production — was his style of running. He’s a powerful down-hill runner that packed steam and rarely went down on first contact.

A bit thinner through his top half, Jamison still packs a similar punch behind a stocky and proportionate 5’8″, 203-pound frame. He has the ability to juke and bend, he’s a lot more agile than he appears and he can rush effectively both inside and outside.

Jamison’s not quite a meatball with legs, but he’s close.

Deceiving Burst

It wasn’t that long ago we saw a running back run a rather unimpressive forty-yard dash at the combine and suddenly turn into one of the league’s most proficient running backs.

Similarly, Jamison’s clocked 4.68 at the combine in February wasn’t superb by any means. But don’t mistake him for a slug. He can get through the line and move, at times giving safeties nothing more than a chasing chance.

We saw this type of deceiving burst out of Morris last season. Even for a bigger running back, Morris had seven runs of 20 yards or more, three of which were for 30 yards plus.

Scheme Fit

Does the offensive scheme in Washington help? Certainly.

Shanahan drafts guys that fit and Jamison works. He has the vision, he has the cutting ability and he can turn it up field when he finds a lane.

If you think about Jamison as a third-down back, he offers a little bit in each situation — run, catch or protect.

It’s a perfect pairing.

Roster Shape

Finally, although no one likes to make good of an injury, the roster may end up taking shape in favor of Jamison.

Roy Helu was drafted a couple years ago to be the Redskins’ homerun threat in the backfield. He had the speed, he could catch and he showed well in early development as a pass protector.

Since his injury, however, there’s thought that Helu may be deeper in the hole than anyone originally anticipated.

If Helu ends up damaged goods, if his speed and explosiveness are limited due to the injury, he could very well end up off the roster.

In such a case, a guy like Jamison who can receive out of the backfield and shows potential as a pass blocker could step in.

Perhaps it seems a bit crazy to think a seventh-rounder like Jamison could become a fixture in the Redskins offense in just his first year on the job. But we’ve seen crazier.

Behind Morris, the running back position is wide-open. Although very early on, things seem to be aligning just right for a rookie looking to make the squad — and said rookie struts all the characteristics Shanahan looks for in his running backs.

Once more fans witness Jamison’s versatility and well-roundedness, I think they’ll get a better idea of why the rookie has a solid chance of winding up on the final 53.

Despite being the Redskins top cornerback last season, DeAngelo Hall was cut before free agency due to a massively inflated $8 million contract owed to him for the 2013 season.

With an $18 million cap penalty against the team, the Redskins didn’t have a whole lot to work with during the offseason.

Last month, the Redskins re-signed Hall to a much more acceptable — and logical — $2 million deal. In return, they receive a starting caliber cornerback who played his best ball of the season down the stretch last year, and a guy that seemingly wants to be a part of something great in Washington.

Hall sat down with NFL Total Access on Tuesday.

“For me, this time around, it wasn’t about the money,” Hall said “We started something here in Washington with coach (Mike) Shanahan and that was the biggest thing I wanted to stress. I felt like my contract along with (Albert) Haynesworth were the reasons we were in the situation we were in. So for me, it wasn’t about the money.”

“I wanted to come back here,” Hall continued. “I wanted to finish something I started. I grew up in Virginia Beach area. I’m a local l kid, went to Virginia Tech. I want to be a part of this football team. I’ve been a part of it when we weren’t so good. So to finally be on the cusp of being great, I want to be a part of that. I was willing to take a pay cut and get back on this football team to help us win.”

Hall received tons of criticism last season, especially during the Redskins’ ugly 3-6 start. But it wouldn’t take long for fans to realize that Hall was the team’s best corner. And with better safety help, he’d be even more effective.

There’s no telling what’s in store for Hall and the Redskins following his one-year deal, but the team did address the safety position during the draft, snagging playmaking centerfield types to help threaten in the deep half.

If the 29-year-old Hall performs well in 2013, he’d stand on good ground of receiving another decent payday from his hometown club.

Perhaps for the first time in his career, Hall is netting some positive attention for his respectable attitude and team-first approach.

My porkish figure and constant discussion of all things edible usually gives it away. But for those who don’t know, I’m what you’d call a foodie.

Sites like DudeFoods.com can consume my entire morning, turn me into some raging zombie-like creature on the hunt for fattening foods and then destroy my entire weekend.

And it’s great.

Nick of DudeFoods is a lunatic when it comes to tasty, artery-clogging treats. If you claim to be a creative and adventurous eater, I dare you to step into the ring with Nick. He’s a manimal.

Not that everything Nick posts on his site doesn’t deserve a retweet or re-post, but sometimes his creations call for special attention.

Ladies and gentlemen, feast your eyes on the greatest taco shell to ever come in contact with human life.

Courtesy of Dude Foods

Years back, the heavenly Taco Bell offered a BLT taco, which came with your choice of chicken, beef or steak, topped with bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese and club sauce. It was incredible.

But think about the masses that would flock for a BLT taco that had the SHELL MADE OF FRICKIN’ BACON.

As Nick admits, plenty of people have created this bacon taco shell. Or at least something like it. But it’s hard to disagree that none have looked this damn appetizing.

Also, amongst the many links to cool stuff on Nick’s website, you’ll find a specific link for his bacon quesadilla shells. Again, something for Taco Bell to take note of.

Or they should just hire Nick.
